Join Michigan State University Extension and local stewardship organizations on April 18 for a “Conservation Conversation” event highlighting wetland conservation in Michigan. The event will include a presentation by Dr. Barb Avers a Waterfowl and Wetlands Specialist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The event will take place at the Michigan Nature Association in Okemos from 6:00-8:00 PM. It will begin with the presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. Participants will have an opportunity to enjoy refreshments, engage in discussion, and mingle with local stewardship organizations.
Wetlands are incredibly important and provide diverse benefits such as wildlife habitat, places to recreate, improved water quality, flood water storage, and many more. Learn how partners including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ducks Unlimited, and many local organizations are working to protect and restore wetlands across the state. Also, learn about opportunities to restore and improve small wetlands on private lands and how to make them beneficial for wildlife. Don’t have wetlands of your own? Learn ways that everyone can contribute to wetland conservation.
The Michigan State University Extension Conservation Stewards Program is hosting this event and many other “Conservation Conversations” across the state this spring. These in-person events focus on current research and management approaches, unique natural communities, and diverse partnerships involved in supporting Michigan ecosystems.
