Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS): The mission of the NRCS is to provide leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, improve, and sustain our natural resources and environment.
The NRCS office is located at the USDA Service Center at 2343 N US-27, North of St. Johns, MI.
NRCS works with the local landowners to address resource concerns, and to help develop conservation plans. The 2002 Farm Bill Conservation Programs that are available in Clinton County to address resource concerns are as follows:
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP): EQIP provides technical, educational, and financial assistance to eligible farmers and ranchers to address soil, water, and related natural resource concerns on their lands in an environmentally beneficial and cost-effective manner. More Info
Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP): WRP is a voluntary program offering landowners the opportunity to protect, restore, and enhance wetlands on their property. More Info
Conservation Reserve Program (CRP): The Conservation Reserve Program reduces soil erosion, protects the Nation's ability to produce food and fiber, reduces sedimentation in streams and lakes, improves water quality, establishes wildlife habitat, and enhances forest and wetland resources. More Info
Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP): The Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program provides financial incentives to develop habitat for fish and wildlife on private lands. More Info
Stony Creek Watershed (PL-566): The Stony Creek Watershed in Clinton County has funding available through a PL-566 grant to install conservation practices that reduce erosion and provide wildlife habitat. More Info
Conservation Security Program (CSP): The Maple River Watershed was the only Michigan watershed selected for the 2006 Conservation Security Program (CSP) sign-up. More Info
